Product FAQS

DYNOMYCO® is the product of thirty years of Israeli research on resilient local mycorrhiza. The species and strains that make up its active ingredients were carefully screened specifically for DYNOMYCO® customer needs. Glomus intraradices and Glomus mosseae, the active ingredients in DYNOMYCO® mycorrhizal inoculants, are naturally-occurring arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) that have been identified and well-researched as powerful and effective plant symbionts that enhance nutrient uptake, water absorption and plant resistance to stress. DYNOMYCO® contains an especially vigorous strain of Glomus intraradices that was originally isolated from the harsh conditions of the Israeli Negev desert, along with additional strains of Glomus intraradices and Glomus mosseae, to ensure quick acclimation to other soil and media types and climates.

The combination of these two mycorrhizal species provide the following benefits:
• Increased Phosphorus (P) uptake
• Increased Nitrogen (N) uptake
• Increased micro-nutrient uptake
• Improved plant establishment
• Increased flowering
• Increased crop yields
• Drought protection
• Drought tolerance
• Healthier root systems
• Disease suppression
• Salinity tolerance

No! DYNOMYCO® contains only naturally-occurring, non-GMO fungi. With over 400 million years of evolution to draw on, natural mycorrhizal fungi are already well-adapted to help 90% of all plant species, without the need for any genetic modification. We’ve selected and screened our strains of fungi to best fit our customers' cultivation needs without any modifications. DYNOMYCO® is Clean Green Certified and is as natural as it gets!

Not all mycorrhizal inoculants are created equal! Our in-house production process results in a uniquely potent mycorrhizal inoculant that truly stands out from the competition:

• DYNOMYCO® mycorrhizal inoculants are highly concentrated. When it comes to mycorrhizae, the cost vs. benefit of an inoculant depends primarily on product concentration. DYNOMYCO® products contain 900 viable propagules per gram of Glomus intraradices and Glomus mosseae, the two species most relevant to our customers' needs (see question, “What types of mycorrhizal fungi are in DYNOMYCO®”).

• DYNOMYCO® derives from vigorous strains of endomycorrhizae, sourced from the harsh Israeli desert. These fungal strains have evolved to be true survivors, able to adapt and thrive in the most difficult soil and weather conditions.

• DYNOMYCO® does not contain any ectomycorrhizal fungi, which are irrelevant to our customers' needs (see question, “What is the difference between endomycorrhizae and ectomycorrhizae”).

• DYNOMYCO® contains only naturally-occurring, non-GMO fungi.

• DYNOMYCO® is based on whole inoculum, meaning each batch contains spores, hyphae and root fragments, which support quick plant colonization. These propagules are grown in-vivo (on living plants) in order to best resemble natural conditions. They are therefore more resilient compared to lab-produced spores grown in sterile environments.

• DYNOMYCO® is produced in-house, unlike many other products on the market, and is the result of 30 years of Israeli research, and hundreds of field trials worldwide. We’ve worked with growers in Israel and in the U.S. to best identify which species and strains are most effective.

Endomycorrhizal fungi, also known as arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), physically penetrate the cortical cells of plant roots, directly availing the plant with nutrients. Endomycorrhizae occur in 90% of all vascular plant species and are especially relevant in the initial stages of plant growth. Ectomycorrhizal fungi, however, typically do not penetrate the plant root, but rather wrap around the root tips. Ectomycorrhizae are only relevant for 10% of vascular plants, mostly trees and woody plants such as birch, eucalyptus, oak, pine and other hardwood trees, and contribute to later growth stages in those plants. Adding ectomycorrhizal fungi to growth cultivars that don't form symbiotic relationships with this mycorrhizae type will not enhance absorption of nutrients or water!

It is difficult to obtain data regarding natural mycorrhizal fungi already in the soil without specialized testing to identify relevant species, amounts and ratios, as well as the most beneficial mycorrhizal fungi's location relative to the roots of your plants. Making decisions based on unknowns may cause your plants to miss beneficial developmental opportunities during key times throughout the year, thereby delaying the formation of mycorrhizae with the plant roots. In addition, there is no guarantee that the mycorrhizal fungi in your native soil form symbiotic relationships with your plant species. The fungi in DYNOMYCO®, however, engage in proven symbiotic relationships with our customers' plants and are the best way to guarantee inoculation.

The sooner mycorrhizae form, the sooner they start to benefit plants, and as any grower knows, the first days of the plant’s life cycle can be critical to success. Growing necessitates getting plants off to the best start possible. With short life cycles of only a few months, plants need all the help they can get at an early stage so that they can focus on flowering rather than vegetative growth.

DYNOMYCO® has a three year shelf life at the concentrations stated on the label. After three years, the fungi may begin to degrade. Each product has a “best if used by” date on the packaging.

A propagule is a unit of fungal inoculum that is determined by the amount of infectious tissue it contains. Such tissue can consist of viable spores, hyphae, or even pre-inoculated plant root tissue (which contains hyphae). Spore counts are typically determined visually, by examining stained inocula under a microscope. A single viable spore is equivalent to a single propagule.

Usage FAQS

DYNOMYCO® requires direct contact with the roots of your plants to achieve maximum effect. It can be applied by mixing into the growing media, applying directly in the planting hole or as a root-ball coating. Therefore, it is best to apply directly to seedlings and clones, and with every transplantation into larger containers. The standard rate of application is 5 grams per seedling/clone, and thereafter, 5 grams of DYNOMYCO® for every gallon of soil (1.25 grams per liter). See product label for more detailed instructions. Note that application of DYNOMYCO® mycorrhizal inoculants requires no additional adjustments to your cultivation process.

No! However, we don't want good fungi to go to waste. Please note DYNOMYCO®’s recommended application rates (see answer to question above: “What are the ideal timing and amount requirements for applying DYNOMYCO®?") Don’t worry about over-application; each plant autoregulates its mycorrhization and maintains ideal levels of the fungi.

Since mycorrhizae generally survive only as long as their host plants, DYNOMYCO® should be reapplied with every grow cycle. If you are using new growing media, then adding DYNOMYCO® is essential for enriching the new soil with microbial life. If you are planting in reused soil, you will want to inoculate the soil again in order to support the plant's early growth stages with fungi. DYNOMYCO® should be reapplied with each transplantation into larger containers to ensure that the newly formed root tips will also enjoy the benefits of mycorrhizae.

Depending on the growing protocol and operation, the results of effective DYNOMYCO® inoculation will likely become apparent within two to six weeks (though we have even seen improvements within just a few days). Visual differences may include faster plant growth, larger flowers, richer plant color, more lush and dark, healthier leaves, more potent scent, bushier looking plants and fewer signs of stress compared to non-inoculated plants. Other beneficial differences between inoculated to non-inoculated plants may include a healthier root system and root structure (noticeable when transplanting), as well as reduced transplant shock.

We recommend asking us before using fungicides together with DYNOMYCO® inoculants. As a rule of thumb, non-systemic fungicides, herbicides and insecticides are generally compatible with DYNOMYCO® inoculants, while many systemic fungicides are incompatible. When drenching soil with fungicide, we recommend doing so at least two weeks prior to mycorrhizal inoculation or at least four weeks after planting. To ensure compatibility with other treatments, please check DYNOMYCO®’s Compatibility Tool. When in doubt, our technical staff is always available to help. In general, we recommend against using synthetic pesticides or fungicides – there are lots of natural products that will have the same effect and that are better for both you and your plant’s health. We support organic and natural farming practices, especially when it comes to plants used by medical patients.

The endomycorrhizal species Glomus intraradices and Glomus Mosseae, of the active ingredients in DYNOMYCO®, is considered the “universal soldier of mycorrhiza” because it exhibits relatively little host specificity and thus will benefit most plants. However, certain soil and growing media conditions may enhance plant responsiveness to DYNOMYCO® and the two species of fungi. Certain unfavorable soil conditions, such as low water and organic matter content, deficient soil phosphorus and nitrogen levels, heavy metal toxicity, and acidic or alkaline soil conditions may, ironically, further highlight DYNOMYCO®'s impact. Sub-optimal soil acidity conditions limit crop production in 40% of the world’s soils, mostly because many plants do not absorb nutrients (especially phosphorus) well in acidic (pH < 5.0) or in alkaline (pH > 7.5) soils. Glomus intraradices adjusts soil pH levels in order for plants to better absorb nutrients, while Glomus mosseae promotes disease suppression and keeps root systems healthier. Each one of the fungal strains were selected for traits and qualities that help our customers' plants grow optimally in various growing media.

High rates of fertilizers, especially inorganic and soluble phosphorus fertilizers, can hinder the formation of mycorrhizae. Mycorrhizal fungi are sensitive to soil phosphorus levels because if there is already a surplus of phosphorous available to the plant, mycorrhizae have less reason to perform. High phosphorus soil content will therefore also cause the mycorrhizae to delay or not perform other important duties such as increasing water and other nutrient uptake into the plant. Available phosphorus levels should be kept in the low to moderate range depending on soil type, especially at the time of mycorrhizal inoculation (when the mycorrhizae attach to the plant roots). Organic fertilizers, however, have been shown to exhibit less inhibitory effects on mycorrhizae than inorganic, soluble fertilizers. The use of organic fertilizers, kelp, humic acids and other carbon sources have been shown to be compatible in combination with mycorrhizal fungi. Composts are mostly compatible with mycorrhizal fungi, but caution should be taken as some compost sources may have high salt or other nutrient content that can inhibit DYNOMYCO®’s mycorrhizal fungi.

DYNOMYCO® mycorrhizal inoculant must be in direct contact with inoculable roots, which is easier to do during the seeding, cloning, planting and transplanting stages. However, if mature plants show signs of stress, then an application of DYNOMYCO® by root-ball dusting or transplanting into a new pot with inoculated soil can help greatly. An additional way of applying DYNOMYCO® to established plants is to poke 4-5 holes around the plant, making sure that the holes are deep enough to reach the roots (this can vary depending on the size and depth of the pot or soil), and use a funnel to pour DYNOMYCO® into each one of the holes. Make sure DYNOMYCO® gets to the youngest roots, which are at the bottom, as these are softest and easiest for the fungi to penetrate (older roots harden up as they mature, becoming impenetrable).

Absolutely! We are strong supporters of natural farming practices which are mostly compatible and even complementary with mycorrhizal inoculants such as DYNOMYCO®. DYNOMYCO® is Clean Green Certified (similar to USDA National Organic Program) and is approved for use in regenerative and sustainable agricultural practices.

DYNOMYCO® is Clean Green Certified and can be used in regenerative and sustainable or natural farming practices. Clean Green uses similar standards to the USDA’s National Organic Program.

Initially, we suggest you add DYNOMYCO® into your growing media and stick to your growing protocol. After you’ve gotten comfortable using DYNOMYCO® and are seeing its benefits, you can begin to change your feeding rates. We’ve seen yield increases with both growers who have reduced their P inputs and growers who have maintained the same input amounts.

Yes. Since DYNOMYCO® boasts such high concentrations of mycorrhizal fungi you won’t need to purchase an inoculant which combines fungi and bacteria. You’ll be able to invest your money in an inoculant with bacteria only and still see incredible results.

Yes. See question: “Do fertilizer or compost affect applications affect DYNOMYCO®” for a further explanation.
